Nestlé Nigeria Earns Top Nigeria Customs AEO Certification for Supply Chain Security, Compliance

Nestlé Nigeria Plc has been awarded the highest level of Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) certification by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), marking a major milestone in the company’s commitment to supply chain security, regulatory compliance, and global best practices.

The multinational food and beverage company attained the Security and Safety status under the NCS AEO programme, a certification valid for five years that recognises exceptional adherence to customs regulations, robust supply chain controls, and operational transparency.

The certification followed a rigorous validation process involving comprehensive customs audits and on-site operational assessments. Out of 391 applications received nationwide, only 35 companies were granted full AEO certification, with an even smaller number achieving the coveted Security and Safety status, placing Nestlé Nigeria among an elite group of compliant operators.

Speaking at the formal presentation of certificates in Abuja, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi (MFR), described the development as evidence that regulatory compliance is achievable within Nigeria’s trade environment.

“With the presentation of certificates today, it is a clear testament that compliance is indeed possible, even within an ecosystem often challenged by non-compliance,” Adeniyi said.

Providing further insight, Assistant Comptroller NU Awa, AEO National Lead, explained that Nestlé Nigeria’s certification was based on its strong operational controls and security standards.

“Nestlé Nigeria was granted AEO Safety and Security certification in recognition of the very high safety and security standards observed during the validation process. This certification reflects the Service’s trust in the company’s compliance framework and its commitment to strengthening supply chain security,” she noted.

The AEO Security and Safety status offers significant operational benefits, including faster customs clearance, reduced inspections at ports and warehouses, improved material availability, and enhanced collaboration with regulators and trade partners. These advantages are expected to improve supply chain efficiency and support uninterrupted product availability for consumers nationwide.

Reacting to the recognition, Kasum Diabate, Supply Chain Manager, Nestlé Nigeria, said the certification underscores the company’s disciplined and responsible approach to operations.
