Ogun Police Arrest 10 Armed Robbery Suspects, Recover Firearm, Trailer Truck and 900 Bags of Cement

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a total of 10 suspected members of an armed robbery and trailer-hijacking syndicate operating along the Papalanto–Ilaro and Owode–Idiroko corridors of the state, recovering a firearm, a hijacked trailer truck, and 900 bags of cement in a sustained intelligence-led operation.

The arrests followed a coordinated operation directed by the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, who ordered operatives of the Anti-Robbery Squad attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, to deploy intelligence assets, intensify surveillance, and discreetly dismantle the criminal network.

Through sustained intelligence gathering, covert surveillance, and crime pattern analysis, detectives successfully identified and penetrated the syndicate, leading to the arrest of eight key suspects at different locations across the state based on actionable intelligence.

Those arrested include Mogaji Sodiq (male), also known as “Ogbonṣ”; Adebowale Lekan (male); Ajah Peter (male); Ganiyu Razaq (male); Odeleye Ayoola (male); Egboja Amos (male); Bello Akeem (male); and Olaifa Sunday (male).

Investigations revealed that the suspects were responsible for violent attacks and the hijacking of trailer trucks conveying cement along major commercial routes in the state. Operatives tracked and recovered most of the stolen cement—900 bags—at a warehouse linked to the syndicate before intercepting the hijacked trailer truck. A locally made single-barrel pistol used by the gang was also recovered during follow-up operations.

In a further breakthrough, police arrested two additional suspects connected to the same syndicate. The suspects, identified as John Seun (male, 24), alias “Dagrin,” and Olanipekun Ezekiel (male, 35), alias “Sharply,” were apprehended for their active roles in the conspiracy and hijacking of the cement-laden trailer.

According to police investigations, the two suspects participated in the operation during which the trailer was hijacked, the driver restrained, and the consignment diverted to a buyer linked to the syndicate. The suspects also reportedly made confessional statements admitting involvement in other serious crimes carried out by the gang.

The police said intelligence is being further exploited to track and apprehend other fleeing members, while investigations continue to dismantle the syndicate’s wider criminal network, including its logistics and supply channels. All suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reaffirming the Command’s resolve, the Commissioner of Police assured residents of Ogun State of sustained intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention, and the protection of lives and property across the state.
