Sanwo-Olu’s Free Eye Care Initiative Reaches NDLEA Lagos Command, Officers Laud Life-Changing Support
Officers and personnel of the (NDLEA), Lagos State Sector Command, have benefitted from the Lagos State Government’s free eye test and prescription glasses initiative, with beneficiaries expressing deep appreciation to Governor for extending the healthcare programme to the agency.
The Commander of Narcotics and Head of Intelligence in Lagos State, Nichols Ibisa, who represented the Lagos State Sector Commander of the NDLEA, ACGN Abubakar Liman Wali, commended the Lagos State Government for prioritising the welfare of security operatives.
Ibisa particularly acknowledged the role of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Transportation and Logistics, Comrade Hassan Adekoya, for facilitating the outreach to officers and men of the command.
According to him, the initiative is timely and impactful, considering the hazardous nature of anti-narcotics operations.
“Our officers face enormous risks in the course of carrying out their duties. Some personnel have experienced vision challenges due to the hazards associated with field operations, while others were unaware they had underlying eye conditions until this screening exercise. This intervention has not only identified those issues but also provided corrective glasses free of charge,” he said.
The free eye care initiative, championed by Governor Sanwo-Olu, is designed to promote early detection of vision-related problems and improve the overall wellbeing and productivity of residents and public servants across the state.
Beneficiaries at the NDLEA Lagos Command described the programme as thoughtful and life-changing, noting that improved vision would enhance their operational efficiency and safety.
In his vote of thanks, the Head of Media and Publicity of the Lagos State NDLEA Command, Mulum Abdullai, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu and Comrade Adekoya for extending the gesture to the agency.
He noted that the nature of anti-drug enforcement exposes officers to environmental and operational hazards that can affect their eyesight over time.
“We sincerely appreciate the Lagos State Government for remembering officers who are on the frontline of the fight against drug abuse and trafficking. This gesture shows that our welfare is valued. Many of our personnel were unaware of their eye conditions until now, and the free glasses will significantly improve their quality of life and effectiveness on duty,” Abdullai said.
The outreach to the NDLEA Lagos Command forms part of the broader health intervention programmes being implemented by the Lagos State Government to enhance public health outcomes and support essential service providers across the state.
