APC Commends Lagos State Government for Reintroducing Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has praised the Lagos State Government for reintroducing the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, describing the move as a demonstration of responsible governance and a proactive step toward improving public health and environmental cleanliness.

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has welcomed the decision by the Lagos State Government to restore the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the state, noting that the initiative will help strengthen community participation in maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Lagos APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo, the party described the policy as a proactive measure aimed at safeguarding public health and promoting environmental sustainability in the state.

Oladejo said the sanitation exercise has historically played a significant role in promoting a culture of cleanliness and civic responsibility among residents, adding that its reintroduction would help tackle sanitation challenges and raise public awareness about proper waste disposal and environmental hygiene.

According to him, Lagos, widely regarded as one of Africa’s fastest-growing megacities, requires a collective commitment from residents and stakeholders to ensure sustainable environmental management.

“The return of the sanitation exercise reflects the unwavering determination of the state government to uphold high standards of environmental management while encouraging residents to take ownership of their immediate surroundings,” he said.

The APC spokesman further noted that the initiative would help strengthen preventive public health measures, reduce environmental hazards and protect communities from sanitation-related challenges.

He therefore urged residents, community development associations, market groups, youth organisations and civil society stakeholders to support the policy by actively participating in the exercise.

Oladejo expressed confidence that the sanitation programme would contribute significantly to the ongoing transformation of Lagos into a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable megacity.
