 APC Lagos Holds Ramadan Lecture, Urges Muslims to Sustain Spiritual Discipline After Fasting

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has urged Muslims to sustain the spiritual purification, discipline, and moral values cultivated during Ramadan, emphasizing that the lessons of the holy month should extend beyond the fasting period.

The Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Cornelius Ojelabi, made the call on Tuesday during the third edition of the party’s annual Ramadan public lecture held at LTV 8 Blue Roof.

The lecture, themed “Maintaining Our Spirituality After Ramadan,” attracted party members, Islamic clerics, and supporters who gathered to reflect on the spiritual significance of the fasting period.

Represented by Pharm. Muyideen Daramola, Ojelabi advised Muslims to avoid returning to habits they had abandoned during Ramadan, noting that the essence of fasting goes beyond abstaining from food and drink.

He identified three categories of people during the Ramadan fast — those who begin but do not complete it, those who start and abandon it midway, and those who witness and complete it to the end.

“We should thank Allah for granting us the mercy to witness this period. I pray He preserves us to see the end of Ramadan,” he said.

Ojelabi described the lecture theme as timely and relevant, urging participants to pay attention to the lessons shared and apply them in their daily lives even after the fasting season.

“All the bad habits we refrained from during the fasting period should not return after Ramadan,” he added.

Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of the Ramadan Lecture Planning Committee, Moshood Mayegun, expressed appreciation to members and organisers for ensuring the successful hosting of the programme despite several logistical challenges.

According to him, the event had been postponed three times due to party activities, including congresses, convention processes, and changes in the state executive committee.

“Despite the postponements, we thank Allah for sparing our lives to witness today,” he said.

Mayegun also used the occasion to mobilise party members ahead of future elections, urging them to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and encourage others to participate in the electoral process.

“As 2027 approaches, we must ensure we are prepared. I urge everyone to mobilise their families and communities to come out en masse and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

Delivering the lecture, the guest speaker, AbdulRahman Lawal, Head Missioner/Imam of Nadwat Global Assembly, stressed the need for Muslims to preserve the spiritual gains of Ramadan.

He described fasting as a pathway to righteousness, spiritual purification, and overall well-being.

“Ramadan is a period of spiritual retreat where Muslims learn and relearn how to live righteously. The challenge is to sustain these values beyond the fasting period,” he said.

Lawal urged Muslims to remain steadfast in observing the five daily prayers and other acts of worship after Ramadan, adding that fasting also promotes discipline, empathy for the less privileged, and communal unity.

The cleric concluded by offering prayers for Nigeria, Lagos State, and President Tinubu, asking for peace, stability, and continued progress in the country.
