APC Says PDP in ‘Final Throes’ as Lagos Chapter Mocks Possible ‘One-Man Governors Forum’ for Makinde

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is sliding deeper into crisis following a wave of defections by some of its governors, claiming that Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, could soon be left to chair what it described as a “one-man PDP Governors Forum.”

The Lagos APC made the assertion in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, who said the ongoing political realignments reflect a growing loss of confidence in the opposition party’s leadership and internal structure.

According to Oladejo, the recent defections of several PDP governors to the ruling APC have weakened the party’s credibility and organisational strength.

He said the development has left Governor Makinde on the verge of emerging as the de facto chairman of what he termed a “one-man PDP Governors Forum,” a situation he argued underscores the depth of the PDP’s internal crisis.

“This is not coincidence but rejection,” Oladejo said, adding that the steady exit of governors and key stakeholders signals a vote of no confidence in the PDP’s leadership, ideological direction and ability to resolve its internal conflicts.

The APC spokesman maintained that a political party struggling to manage its internal affairs cannot be trusted with governing a complex country like Nigeria.

He further warned that the PDP’s internal turmoil could weaken the country’s opposition politics, stressing that Nigerians deserve an opposition that is credible, organised and prepared to provide viable alternatives.

Oladejo advised opposition parties to learn from the APC’s years in opposition, which he said were marked by discipline, strategic patience and unity before the party eventually assumed power.

He also accused some opposition leaders of prioritising personal ambition over collective political goals, describing the trend as a major factor behind the PDP’s current challenges.

The Lagos APC, however, said it remains focused on governance and strengthening democratic institutions while consolidating on what it described as progressive policies.

Oladejo urged Nigerians to support political platforms that demonstrate unity, stability and the capacity to provide effective leadership.
