APC Slams ADC Over “Toxic” Birthday Message to Tinubu, Labels Party Desperate

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned what it described as a “disgraceful and toxic outburst” by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following the opposition party’s controversial birthday message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement issued on Monday, the APC accused the ADC of abandoning civility and resorting to “bitterness and petty political hostility” at a time when goodwill and decorum were expected. The ruling party said the development reflects what it termed a deepening crisis within the ADC, describing the opposition as “rudderless, frustrated, and overwhelmed by its own irrelevance.”

The statement, signed by the Lagos APC spokesperson, Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, criticised the ADC for failing to demonstrate political maturity, adding that its conduct undermines the essence of constructive opposition.

Drawing a comparison, the APC referenced the response of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to the personal loss of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, noting that the agency maintained empathy and respect despite ongoing legal proceedings involving the ex-governor.

According to the APC, such actions exemplify the importance of civility in public discourse, even amid political or institutional differences.

“The ADC’s conduct stands in sharp and embarrassing contrast. It reveals a political platform that has abandoned all pretence of maturity and is now fully consumed by desperation and hopelessness,” the statement read.

The party further argued that Nigerians deserve an opposition capable of offering credible alternatives and engaging in constructive dialogue, rather than resorting to what it described as “mindless toxicity.”

The Lagos APC reaffirmed its commitment to governance and service delivery, stating that it remains focused on fulfilling its mandate while “lesser actors continue to flounder in chaos and irrelevance.”
