Badagry Elder stateman Urges Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Honour Zoning Promise Ahead of 2027 Lagos Governorship Race
A prominent Badagry elder, Pa Andu Liadi Adio, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to fulfil longstanding assurances that the Badagry Division will one day produce the Governor of Lagos State, as agitation intensifies ahead of the 2027 elections.
Pa Adio made the appeal while addressing journalists at his residence in Badagry, expressing confidence that the President would not disappoint the people of the division in their quest to produce the next number one citizen of the state.
The 93-year-old elder statesman noted that he had consistently urged youths in the area to remain calm and optimistic, assuring them that justice would ultimately prevail for Badagry, which he described as long marginalized in the state’s political structure.
Reflecting on the past, Adio recalled that during his tenure as Lagos State Governor, President Tinubu had requested a representative from Badagry to serve in his administration. He said the division presented Olanrewaju Saka Shenayon, who went on to serve as Commissioner for Rural Development and Infrastructure during Tinubu’s first term.
According to him, Shenayon’s appointment in 1999 dispels the notion that Badagry lacks qualified individuals capable of holding strategic public offices.
Also speaking, former Commissioner for Rural Development and Infrastructure, Olanrewaju Saka Shenayon, dismissed concerns over the credentials of Dr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, emphasizing that his private sector background should not be a source of apprehension.
He described Ajose, popularly known as “SMA Gold,” as a seasoned professional who has made significant contributions to the socio-economic development of Lagos West and the All Progressives Congress.
In her remarks, former member of the House of Representatives, Rafeequat Arinola Onabamiro, stated that Ajose is well-prepared for leadership, citing his over three decades of experience in the private sector.
She further noted that past Lagos State Governors, including President Tinubu, Babatunde Fashola, and Akinwunmi Ambode, did not begin their careers as career politicians but nonetheless left impactful legacies.
Onabamiro, however, expressed concern that since the creation of Lagos State in 1967, Badagry Division has yet to produce a Military Governor, Deputy Governor, Minister, or Secretary to the State Government.
She concluded by affirming that Lagos West Senatorial District remains united in its support for Dr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose’s potential candidacy in the 2027 governorship election.
