CGC Adeniyi Urges Unity and National Service at Nigeria Customs Ramadan Iftar

Abuja, Nigeria – March 8, 2026 – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has called for renewed commitment to national service, unity, and spiritual reflection as it hosted Ramadan Iftar gatherings for officers, government officials, and key stakeholders.

The events, held in Abuja during the holy month of Ramadan, underscored the Service’s dedication to fostering collaboration, shared values, and professional excellence among its personnel and partners.

The first Iftar took place on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, at Dunes Hotel, where Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi welcomed senior government officials, diplomats, captains of industry, security chiefs, and both serving and retired members of the Customs management team. Representatives of sister security agencies and senior media executives were also in attendance.

Addressing guests, CGC Adeniyi described Ramadan as a period of reflection, discipline, and spiritual renewal, urging Nigerians to carry the lessons of the holy month into their daily lives and national responsibilities.

“Ramadan is a period that requires absolute dedication to faith. It is a time when we turn to God in prayer and seek guidance in all that we do. I encourage all of us to carry the lessons of this season into our daily lives, in our interactions with one another, with our families, in our businesses and most importantly, in our service to the nation,” he said.

The CGC also emphasised that Nigeria’s progress depends on unity and shared responsibility, stressing that all stakeholders must remain committed to achieving lasting peace and economic stability.

“We must remain united in our commitment to national unity, in our pursuit of economic prosperity, and in our determination to strengthen peace and progress in Nigeria,” he added.

At the gathering, Ali Muhammad, Director of Home Finance at the Federal Ministry of Finance, praised the NCS leadership for reforms aimed at strengthening trade administration and revenue generation. He highlighted the Service’s use of technology, particularly the indigenous B’Odogwu digital trade platform, as a key tool to enhance efficiency, transparency, and trade facilitation in line with the Federal Government’s economic recovery agenda.

In her goodwill message, Jummai Umar-Ajijola, Managing Director of Trade Modernisation Project Limited, commended the Customs leadership for institutional reform and innovation, referencing the NCS’s recent showcase of the B’Odogwu platform at an international technology conference in Abu Dhabi, which drew global interest and acclaim.

The following day, 5 March 2026, the NCS hosted a second Iftar at its headquarters in Maitama, organised by the Trade Modernisation Project Limited. The event provided a reflective space for Muslim officers observing the day’s fast, reinforcing values of unity and compassion.

Speaking at the occasion, CGC Adeniyi urged officers to demonstrate self-improvement, compassion, and collective responsibility.

“During this period, we are expected to demonstrate love and affection for each other. I wish you a remarkable and memorable fasting period, and may we witness many more Ramadans and Lenten seasons,” he concluded.
