Eid-el-Fitr: LASTMA Assures Smooth Traffic Flow Across Lagos, Warns Against Violations

The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has extended Eid-el-Fitr greetings to Muslims in Lagos and across Nigeria while assuring residents of seamless traffic management during the festive period and reiterating the agency’s zero-tolerance stance on traffic violations.

As Muslims prepare to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan with the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has urged road users to sustain the discipline, patience and civic responsibility cultivated during the fasting period.

In a goodwill message, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, congratulated the Muslim Ummah for their devotion, resilience and moral uprightness throughout Ramadan, noting that the values demonstrated during the fasting period should extend into daily life.

Bakare-Oki emphasised that maintaining orderliness and obeying traffic regulations are critical to ensuring safety and smooth vehicular movement across Lagos roads, particularly during the festive season when traffic volume is expected to increase.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strict enforcement of traffic laws, stressing that LASTMA would maintain zero tolerance for traffic infractions before, during and after the Eid celebrations.

The LASTMA boss advised motorists, commercial drivers and other road users to avoid reckless driving, illegal parking, route violations, unauthorised off-loading, and driving against traffic, commonly known as one-way, warning that such practices endanger lives and disrupt traffic flow.

“While we celebrate this important occasion, all road users must exercise caution and strictly adhere to traffic rules. LASTMA will not tolerate any action that puts lives at risk or hinders the free flow of traffic,” he said.

Bakare-Oki also disclosed that the authority has developed a comprehensive traffic management strategy to ensure smooth vehicular movement across major roads and high-traffic areas in the state during the festive period.

According to him, LASTMA personnel have been strategically deployed to highways, major intersections and locations expected to witness increased socio-religious activities to prevent congestion and respond promptly to traffic incidents.

He added that traffic officers will conduct round-the-clock monitoring and traffic control operations while collaborating with other security and emergency agencies to maintain safety and minimise disruptions.

The LASTMA General Manager therefore urged Lagos residents to cooperate with traffic officials, remain patient and comply with traffic regulations, stressing that collective responsibility is essential to achieving a safe and efficient transportation system.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to delivering effective traffic management services across Lagos, particularly during peak and festive periods, as part of its mandate to promote safer and more efficient road transportation in the state.
