 IGP Disu Appoints AIG Simeon Akpanudom to Head Force CID Annex Alagbon, Lagos

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the appointment of Simeon Udofia Akpanudom as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, a key investigative arm of the Nigeria Police Force.

Akpanudom’s appointment follows his recent promotion and decoration with the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, marking another milestone in a distinguished policing career spanning more than three decades.

Prior to his new role, the senior officer served as Commissioner of Police in charge of Anti-Fraud at the FCID Annex located at Alagbon Close, Lagos, where he played a critical role in handling complex fraud and financial crime investigations.

With the new appointment, AIG Akpanudom succeeds IGP Disu, who previously headed the FCID Annex before his appointment as the nation’s top police officer by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

During his service at the FCID Annex, Akpanudom also worked closely with Margaret Ochalla, Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters, Abuja, when she served as Assistant Inspector-General overseeing the Alagbon command.

Born on August 4, 1967, in Ukana Ikot Ntuen, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Akpanudom joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Calabar and has acquired several advanced and postgraduate qualifications in industrial safety, security management, and strategic studies. He also earned a Master’s degree from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.

A highly experienced officer with extensive operational, investigative, and administrative background, Akpanudom has served in multiple strategic positions across the country. His career includes postings as Divisional Police Officer in several commands, Area Commander in Calabar, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Anambra State and Cross River State, as well as Directing Staff at the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos.

He also participated in international peacekeeping operations under the United Nations Mission in Kosovo, where he earned global recognition for his service.

Throughout his career, Akpanudom has received several honours, including the Inspector-General’s Commendation (Sword of Honour) as Best All-Round Cadet ASP and a United Nations Medal. He is also a member of several professional bodies and holds a PhD (Honoris Causa) in Leadership.

The new AIG has attended numerous professional courses, including the Strategic Leadership Command Course and the Higher Defence Management Course at the National Defence College Nigeria in Abuja, where he was awarded Fellow status.

His appointment is expected to further strengthen investigative leadership and operational capacity at the FCID Annex, Alagbon, one of the most critical investigative units of the Nigeria Police Force.
