LJLA Partners Ibeju-Lekki LG to Empower Youths Through YOU-LEAD Programme

The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) has partnered with Ibeju-Lekki Local Government to deliver its flagship YOU-LEAD (Youth Leadership, Emergency Action and Development) programme to grassroots communities, aimed at equipping young people with critical leadership and life skills.

The two-day training, held at the NJS Royale Event Centre on March 25, 2026, attracted youths from across Ibeju-Lekki, focusing on leadership development, employability, and emergency response competencies.

Representing the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, the Supervisor for Youths and Sports Development, Hon. Hakeem Oluwole Balogun, described the initiative as a strategic investment in the future of the council area and Lagos State.

According to him, the programme reflects a deliberate effort by the academy, under the leadership of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to decentralise access to quality leadership training.

“By bringing leadership training, emergency response skills, and employability development to the grassroots, the academy has demonstrated that leadership development should not be limited to urban centres but must reach all communities,” Balogun said.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of LJLA, Mrs. Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, commended the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government for supporting the initiative. She urged participants to maximise the opportunity to develop skills that would enable them to make meaningful contributions to society.

The YOU-LEAD programme featured sessions on communication, public speaking, teamwork, problem-solving, emotional intelligence, and financial literacy, among others.

The collaboration highlights the commitment of both the Lagos State Government and Ibeju-Lekki Local Government to promoting inclusive youth development and nurturing the next generation of leaders.

The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, named after former Lagos State Governor Lateef Kayode Jakande, is focused on grooming young Nigerians with the skills, values, and mindset required for leadership and public service.
