Nigerian Navy Strengthens Maritime Partnership with Karflex Fisheries, Atlantic Shrimpers

The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral A. A. Mustapha, has reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to maritime security and collaboration with stakeholders in the fisheries sector during courtesy visits to Karflex Fisheries Limited and Atlantic Shrimpers Nigeria Limited in Lagos.

As part of efforts to strengthen strategic relationships between the Nigerian Navy and key operators in the fisheries industry, the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command (WNC), Rear Admiral A. A. Mustapha, paid courtesy visits to Karflex Fisheries Limited and Atlantic Shrimpers Nigeria Limited on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

During the visits, the naval chief reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime domain, particularly within the Gulf of Guinea. He urged the companies to promptly report any suspicious activities encountered at sea to security agencies.

Rear Admiral Mustapha also invited the management of both firms to participate in the upcoming Nigerian Navy 70th Anniversary Celebration and International Fleet Review, while commending their contributions to the development of Nigeria’s blue economy.

In their responses, the Managing Directors of the companies expressed appreciation for the Navy’s visit and reaffirmed their willingness to deepen collaboration with the service.

The Managing Director of Atlantic Shrimpers Nigeria Limited, Kamlesh Kabra, and the Managing Director of Karflex Fisheries Limited, Mareena Samuel, highlighted the roles their organisations play in supporting food security, boosting local seafood consumption, and contributing to economic growth.

They, however, noted that the high cost of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) remains a significant operational challenge affecting the fisheries sector.

The visits, according to stakeholders, underscore the importance of sustained collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and private sector players in ensuring maritime security and promoting the growth of Nigeria’s blue economy.
