Delta Police Intensify Crackdown on Crime, Clear Hideouts in Asaba

The Delta State Police Command has stepped up its crime-fighting operations with a coordinated show of force and clearance exercise targeting criminal hideouts in Asaba and surrounding areas.

The operation, carried out on April 8, 2026, followed directives from the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi. It involved a joint deployment of tactical teams drawn from multiple units, including the Department of Operations (DOPS), Buffalo Squad, Crack Squad, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad, and Operation Delta Shield.

Led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, the teams conducted aggressive patrols and clearance activities, focusing on the Okpanam bush axis and other identified flashpoints within the Asaba metropolis. The exercise targeted suspected criminal enclaves such as shanties and makeshift camps believed to serve as safe havens for criminal elements, including suspected members of IPOB/ESN.

In addition to dismantling hideouts, the operation featured confidence-building patrols aimed at reassuring residents, farmers, and business owners of their safety, while reinforcing the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

The police command emphasized that the initiative forms part of its proactive policing strategy designed to deter crime, maintain public order, and enhance security across the state. Residents were urged to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright, the operation will be sustained and expanded to other locations as part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
