Ikeja Electric Plc has commemorated the 2026 World Malaria Day 2026 with a community health outreach targeting residents of Abule-Egba and Odogunyan in Lagos State, reinforcing its commitment to public health and wellbeing.

The initiative, themed “Driven to end malaria: Now we can. Now we must,” focused on raising awareness and improving access to essential healthcare services through sensitization campaigns and on-the-spot medical interventions. Residents received education on malaria causes, symptoms, prevention, and early treatment, alongside practical guidance on the use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets and maintaining proper environmental sanitation.

As part of the exercise, community members were tested for malaria and provided with antimalarial medication, treated mosquito nets, and informational materials to support sustained prevention efforts.

Speaking on the intervention, the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kingsley Okotie, said the initiative reflects Ikeja Electric’s broader responsibility beyond electricity distribution.

“At Ikeja Electric, we recognize that our responsibility goes beyond providing electricity. We are committed to supporting the wellbeing of our customers through initiatives that promote healthier communities,” he said, adding that sustained awareness and access to preventive tools are critical in reducing malaria prevalence.

The company also used the occasion to caution customers on electrical safety during the rainy season, highlighting increased risks such as exposed wires, flooded installations, and potential electric shocks. Residents were advised to avoid contact with electrical infrastructure during rainfall, steer clear of damaged or fallen wires, and ensure that installations within their premises are properly secured against water exposure.

Customers were further encouraged to promptly report safety concerns through the company’s emergency lines.
