Interswitch Rolls Out Smart Parking System at Asaba International Airport to Boost Efficiency, Revenue Transparency
In a move to modernise airport operations and enhance user experience, has partnered with to deploy its Parking Management Platform (PMP) at , introducing a fully automated, cashless parking system designed to improve traffic flow, operational efficiency, and revenue accountability.
The newly deployed smart parking system provides a seamless, secure, and automated solution for managing vehicular access and parking within the airport premises. The initiative comes at a time when rising passenger traffic and increased vehicular movement across Nigerian airports are placing pressure on existing infrastructure.
The PMP solution enables real-time parking analytics, accelerates vehicle processing at entry and exit points, and reduces congestion across the airport environment. It is also expected to significantly improve traffic coordination while delivering a smoother experience for travellers, visitors, and airport staff.
Speaking on the development, Vice President, Transport Ecosystem at Interswitch, Nnenna Ajanwachuku, said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to deploying technology that enhances efficiency and transparency across critical sectors. She noted that the platform not only addresses operational bottlenecks but also supports revenue growth and long-term sustainability through smarter infrastructure.
Beyond convenience, the system introduces cashless payment capabilities, reducing reliance on manual processes and eliminating revenue leakages. With centralised monitoring, airport authorities can track vehicle movements in real time, enforce access control, and optimise parking space utilisation more effectively.
Managing Director of Asaba Airport Company, Christophe Penninck, described the initiative as a major step toward operational excellence. He stated that the system will improve service delivery, strengthen financial accountability, and position the airport as a leader in smart aviation infrastructure in Nigeria.
A key feature of the PMP is its ability to integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure, allowing for modernisation without disrupting ongoing airport operations or requiring costly overhauls.
Industry observers say the deployment sets a new benchmark for smart airport systems in Nigeria, highlighting the growing role of automation, digital payments, and data-driven solutions in transforming the country’s aviation and transport ecosystem.
The collaboration signals a broader shift toward intelligent transport systems, where parking and access management are streamlined to meet the demands of modern air travel while improving governance and boosting internally generated revenue.
