Nigeria — April 14, 2026: Nigerian secondary school students now have a fresh opportunity to advance their academic and career prospects as registration opens for the eighth edition of the InterswitchSPAK National Science Competition, a flagship initiative aimed at nurturing the country’s next generation of STEM leaders.

Organised annually by Interswitch Group, the competition targets Year 11 (SS2) students nationwide who demonstrate strong aptitude and interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Since its inception, InterswitchSPAK has grown into a credible platform that identifies, supports, and rewards exceptional young talents across Nigeria.

In a significant development this year, the organisers have expanded access to the competition by allowing parents and guardians to register their wards directly, in addition to the traditional school-based registration process. This move is expected to broaden participation and ensure that more eligible students, regardless of institutional limitations, can take advantage of the programme.

Beyond its competitive framework, InterswitchSPAK continues to stand out for its long-term impact on participants. The initiative provides not only academic recognition but also access to mentorship, exposure, and opportunities that shape students’ educational journeys and future careers.

For the 2026 edition, the stakes have been raised with scholarship rewards exceeding ₦40 million. The overall winner will receive a ₦15 million tertiary education scholarship spread over five years, alongside monthly stipends. The second and third place winners will be awarded ₦10 million and ₦5 million scholarships respectively. In addition, all nine finalists will receive laptops and other cash prizes in recognition of their performance.

The programme also acknowledges the role of educators, with teachers of the top nine finalists set to receive cash rewards, reinforcing the importance of mentorship and quality teaching in academic excellence.
