Lagos Police Debunk Viral Cult Clash Rumour, Assure Residents of Safety

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed widespread reports of an impending cult-related clash in parts of the state, assuring residents that adequate security measures have been deployed to maintain peace and order.

The Command, in a press statement issued on Monday and e-signed by its Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, described the viral claims as false and misleading. The statement, made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, urged residents to remain calm and disregard unverified information capable of causing panic.

According to the police spokesperson, the Command had already taken proactive and decisive steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order in the areas mentioned in the viral message, including Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda, and Ishaga.

“The Lagos State Police Command wishes to address the circulating message alleging a possible cult-related clash in some areas of the State… The Command wishes to categorically state that it has taken proactive and decisive measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order,” the statement read.

SP Adebisi disclosed that following initial reports, police personnel and operational assets were promptly deployed to the affected locations and adjoining communities to ensure security coverage.

She further noted that the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, had ordered intensified patrols, strategic deployment of officers, and enhanced police visibility across identified flashpoints to deter any unlawful gatherings or activities.

“The areas are well secured, and adequate security coverage has been emplaced to ensure the safety of lives and property,” she added.

The Command reassured residents that there is no cause for alarm and encouraged them to continue their lawful activities without fear, emphasizing that security agencies remain fully operational across the state.

Residents were also advised to stay vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.

While acknowledging public concerns, the police cautioned against the spread of unverified rumours, reiterating its commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining peace across Lagos State.
