Lagos Police Hold Walkathon to Boost Public Trust, Community Safety on National Police Day

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday staged a 4-kilometre walkathon across Ikeja as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day, reinforcing its commitment to community partnership, public trust, and improved security presence in the state.

The Lagos State Police Command continued its National Police Day celebrations with a strategic walkathon aimed at deepening police-community relations and promoting safety across Lagos.

The exercise, held on March 31, 2026, commenced from the Command Headquarters in Ikeja Government Reserved Area and moved through Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, extending towards the Police College Ikeja. Participants covered an estimated distance of four kilometres.

Senior officers, Area Commanders, and rank-and-file personnel of the Command turned out in large numbers for the event, which forms part of nationwide activities under the theme, “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”

According to the Command, the walkathon was designed to enhance police visibility, reassure residents of their safety, and reinforce the accessibility and responsiveness of officers to public concerns. It also served as a demonstration of the physical fitness and operational readiness of police personnel.

Speaking during the exercise, the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, reiterated the Command’s commitment to people-focused policing. He stressed that officers remain within reach of the public and urged residents to actively collaborate with the police in maintaining peace and security.

Tijani encouraged citizens to report grievances and security concerns without hesitation, assuring that the Command is equipped and prepared to address issues promptly and professionally. He added that policing guided by humility, integrity, and accountability remains central to the Command’s operations.

The walkathon is one of several initiatives lined up by the police to commemorate the 2026 National Police Day and strengthen trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
