Nigerian Navy Hosts Indonesian Warship Crew in Lagos to Deepen Maritime Cooperation

The Nigerian Navy has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international maritime partnerships as the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral AA Mustapha, received the crew of Indonesian Navy ship KRI Canopus-936 on a courtesy visit to the command’s headquarters in Lagos.

Leading the Indonesian delegation was the ship’s Commanding Officer, Captain Indragiri, accompanied by Indonesia’s Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Colonel Aslam. The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral relations between Nigeria and Indonesia, particularly in the area of maritime security cooperation.

The engagement follows a recent port call by another Indonesian naval vessel, KRI Prabu, to Lagos—an indication of the growing naval collaboration between both countries.

Speaking during the visit, Captain Indragiri commended the warm reception accorded his team and expressed confidence in sustained cooperation between the Indonesian Navy and the Nigerian Navy.

In his remarks, Rear Admiral Mustapha welcomed the delegation on behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff, describing the visit as a reflection of Indonesia’s commitment to naval diplomacy. He emphasized the need for stronger collaboration in key areas such as hydrography and revealed plans for potential engagement with Nigerian Navy Ship LANA and Nigerian Navy Ship OCHUZO during the port call.

He further disclosed that a series of activities, including sporting and social engagements, had been scheduled to promote camaraderie and mutual understanding among personnel of both navies.

The visit concluded with the exchange of souvenirs and a group photograph, symbolizing the strengthening ties between the two maritime forces.
