ALAT at 9: Wema Bank Marks Milestone, Rewards Customers for Digital Banking Innovation
Wema Bank Plc has commemorated the ninth anniversary of its flagship digital platform, ALAT by Wema, celebrating nearly a decade of innovation that has reshaped the banking experience for millions of Nigerians.
Launched in 2017 as Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT was designed to eliminate the constraints of traditional banking, including long queues, physical branch limitations, and slow transaction processes. The platform enables users to open accounts, carry out transactions, and manage finances seamlessly from their mobile devices.
Over the past nine years, ALAT has evolved into a robust digital ecosystem catering to individuals, businesses, and a growing base of tech-savvy customers. Its offerings include structured savings solutions such as ALAT Goals, simplified payment services, and tools aimed at improving financial inclusion across Nigeria.
To mark the anniversary, the bank unveiled its “ALAT at 9” campaign, a month-long initiative focused on customer engagement, rewards, and interactive digital experiences.
Among the highlights is the ALAT Wrapped feature, which provides users with a personalised summary of their activity on the platform, designed for easy sharing on social media. Customers can also participate in the “9 Features in 9 Days” challenge, where completing daily tasks unlocks rewards and encourages active use of the app.
In addition, users who complete their ninth transaction at exactly 9:00 a.m. or 9:00 p.m. stand a chance to receive instant rewards. The campaign also includes the ALAT Evolution Jingle Challenge, inviting participants to create a second verse of the brand’s jingle for a chance to win prizes.
Speaking on the milestone, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, Moruf Oseni, described the anniversary as a reflection of the bank’s journey and future direction.
“ALAT at 9 is not just a celebration of time. It reflects how far we have come and where we are going. We have consistently evolved with our customers, building a platform that is functional, engaging, and rewarding,” he said.
Also commenting, Chief Digital Officer, Olusegun Adeniyi, noted that the campaign blends everyday banking with meaningful customer interaction.
“With ALAT at 9, we are transforming routine banking into an interactive experience through personalised insights, gamified missions, and real rewards. This aligns with our vision of building an intuitive and customer-centric digital bank,” Adeniyi stated.
The anniversary activities, which run from May 2 to May 31, 2026, are open to both existing and new customers. Users are encouraged to update or download the ALAT app via the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to participate.
With the “ALAT at 9” campaign, Wema Bank says it remains committed to strengthening its leadership in digital banking while delivering innovative financial solutions tailored to the evolving needs of its customers.
