Apapa Customs Generates ₦2.93tn Revenue, Targets Higher Growth in 2026

The Nigeria Customs Service Apapa Area Command has urged its officers to sustain the momentum in revenue generation, strengthen operational discipline and enhance trade facilitation efforts to improve efficiency at the nation’s busiest seaport.

The charge was given during an internal performance review meeting where the command evaluated its operations and outlined strategies for the remaining months of 2026.

Speaking at the session, the Customs Area Controller, Emmanuel Oshoba, attributed the command’s achievements in 2025 to effective leadership, disciplined personnel and increased deployment of technology-driven solutions.

He called on officers to consolidate on the gains already recorded and maintain improved performance in revenue collection and service delivery.

According to Oshoba, the command generated ₦2.93 trillion in revenue in 2025, representing a 24.32 per cent increase over the ₦2.36 trillion collected in 2024.

The command linked the growth in revenue to the implementation of the Unified Customs Management System, popularly known as B’Odogwu, which it said has enhanced transparency, accountability and efficiency in cargo clearance processes.

Oshoba also highlighted ongoing trade facilitation measures, including the rollout of the Authorised Economic Operator Programme and the expansion of the One-Stop Shop initiative aimed at accelerating cargo processing for compliant traders.

He further disclosed that plans were underway to deploy the FS6000 cargo scanning system to strengthen cargo inspection operations. According to him, the scanner will have the capacity to process up to 200 containers per hour.

On enforcement activities, the command revealed that it intercepted 53 containers laden with illicit drugs and prohibited items, including cocaine, tramadol and expired pharmaceutical products.

The seized consignments, with a Duty Paid Value estimated at ₦12.6 billion, were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control for further investigation and necessary action.

Oshoba reaffirmed the command’s commitment to balancing revenue generation, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations while sustaining collaboration with stakeholders across the maritime sector.
