APC Holds Senatorial Primaries Nationwide, Lagos East Leaders Endorse Abiru as Consensus Candidate
The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday conducted its senatorial primary election accross the country, Lagos East Senatorial District, with incumbent senator, Tokunbo Abiru, emerging as the consensus candidate amid strong endorsement from party leaders, stakeholders, and members across the district.
The primary election, described by party officials as peaceful and transparent, witnessed the presence of key APC stakeholders, including House of Representatives member, Babajimi Benson, alongside other party chieftains and loyalists who openly declared support for Abiru’s candidacy.
Speaking after the affirmation process, Senator Abiru expressed gratitude to God and the leadership of the party for the confidence reposed in him, noting that the absence of opposition within the party reflected the unity and collective resolve of APC members in Lagos East.
He also appreciated the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as a source of inspiration and leadership to party faithful across the country.
According to him, the APC remains focused on strengthening its structures ahead of the general elections, urging members to work collectively for the success of all candidates flying the party’s flag, including the party’s governorship candidate and other contestants.
Abiru maintained that the process leading to his emergence was credible and transparent, stressing that there were no irregularities in his candidacy or the conduct of the primary election.
“There may be people who are not satisfied, especially those who did not secure tickets, but the process has been transparent and credible. The affirmation we have witnessed today is a reflection of the confidence party members have in the leadership and the process,” he stated.
Party stakeholders at the event also commended the orderly conduct of the exercise, describing it as a demonstration of internal democracy and party unity within the Lagos APC.
Hon. Benson, while addressing party members, called for sustained unity and support for the APC at all levels, emphasizing the need for members to remain committed to the party’s vision and leadership.
The Lagos East Senatorial District remains one of the strategic political blocs in Lagos State, with the APC seeking to consolidate its dominance ahead of the forthcoming elections.
