APC Primary Election Fails to Hold in Surulere Constituency II Amid Allegations of Irregularities

The All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Surulere Federal Constituency II was on Saturday marred by confusion and allegations of irregularities as the exercise failed to hold across the six wards in the constituency despite a massive turnout of party members.

It was gathered that the affected wards include Orile, Coker, Aguda, Itire, Ijesha and Ikate, where hundreds of APC members reportedly arrived as early as 9:00 a.m. in anticipation of the exercise.

Prior to the election, the leadership of the party in the constituency had issued a statement urging members and supporters to appear at their designated voting centres with valid membership cards and arrive early for accreditation and voting.

However, party members who trooped to the various centres were left stranded as no electoral officials or voting materials were reportedly deployed to the wards throughout the exercise.

The development sparked anger among party faithful, many of whom described the situation as unacceptable and warned against any attempt to impose a candidate on the constituency.

Some aggrieved members called on the Lagos State leadership of the APC to launch a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the failed exercise and announce a fresh date for the conduct of the primary election.

The contest for the APC ticket in Surulere Federal Constituency II is believed to be a keenly contested race between the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Lanre Okunlola, and Hon. Aremu Olalekan Abdulateef.
