FUMAN Clarifies Constitutional Position on President’s Tenure, Defends Legitimacy of National Convention
The Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria (FUMAN) has dismissed claims of constitutional irregularities surrounding the tenure of its National President and other executives, insisting that its recently concluded National Convention was conducted in line with the association’s constitution and democratic procedures.
In a statement issued by the association’s National Publicity Secretary, Adebola Muili Isimijola, popularly known as “King Kakaki Safari,” FUMAN said the clarification became necessary following comments in some quarters questioning the legality of the tenure of the National President and newly elected officers.
According to the association, the National Convention held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Sulerious Lakeside Hotel, New Road, Ahoyaya, in Ibeju-Lekki, was conducted transparently and strictly in accordance with constitutional provisions guiding the association.
FUMAN explained that its constitution provides for the dissolution of the National Executive Council at every convention to pave the way for fresh elections into various offices.
The association further stated that there is no constitutional provision stipulating term limits for National, State, or Zonal Executives, including the offices of the President, Governors, and Chairmen.
It added that all duly elected officers remain constitutionally recognised based on the mandate freely given to them by members of the association across the country.
FUMAN disclosed that among the newly elected officers, six are serving third terms, five are serving second terms, while two are serving their first terms, describing the outcome as a reflection of the confidence members have in the leadership.
The association urged members of the public, stakeholders in the entertainment industry, and its members nationwide to disregard reports alleging constitutional breaches regarding the tenure of its executives.
FUMAN reaffirmed its commitment to unity, peace, professionalism, and the promotion and preservation of Fuji music within Nigeria and internationally.
The newly elected national officers include Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Agboola as President, Alhaji Musbau Alani Omokekere as 1st Vice President, and Alhaji Ismail Adisa Owala as 2nd Vice President, among others.
