Lagos Police Launch ‘Command Sweepers Squad’, Deploy 3 Refurbished APCs to Flush Out Criminals in Ikorodu

The Lagos State Police Command has intensified its security operations in Ikorodu with the inauguration of a special tactical unit, the “Command Sweepers Squad,” alongside the immediate deployment of three refurbished Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) recently donated by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), in a renewed effort to curb rising criminal activities in the area.

In a decisive response to recent security concerns in Ikorodu and surrounding communities such as Ijede and Ginti, the Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijani, led a major show of force across the axis to reinforce police dominance and deter criminal elements.

During the operation, the Command officially inaugurated the “Command Sweepers Squad,” a temporary but coordinated tactical intervention unit designed to tackle emerging threats in identified crime-prone areas within Ikorodu and adjoining communities.

The squad is composed of multiple specialised formations, including the Command Tactical Teams, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Lagos Taskforce, Eko Strike Force, and PMF units (2, 22, and 63), alongside personnel from sister security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). The collaborative outfit is tasked with intelligence-led policing operations, raids on suspected hideouts, stop-and-search duties, and sustained confidence-building patrols.

As part of the operational deployment, the recently refurbished APCs handed over by the LSSTF were immediately put into use, alongside patrol vehicles, to strengthen mobility, response time, and operational coverage across the area.

CP Tijani, while inaugurating the squad, reaffirmed that all operations would be carried out professionally and strictly within the confines of the law. He urged residents to remain vigilant and support ongoing security efforts with timely and credible intelligence.

He issued a stern warning to criminal elements operating in Ikorodu and its environs, advising them to desist from unlawful activities or leave the area, stressing that the Command would not hesitate to act decisively to protect lives and property.

The Commissioner also assured law-abiding residents of sustained patrols across strategic locations, noting that the squad would maintain a strong presence across all nooks and crannies of Ikorodu to restore lasting peace and public confidence.

Residents were encouraged to report suspicious activities through dedicated emergency lines, including 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929.

CP Tijani further commended the Executive Secretary/CEO of the LSSTF, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, for the logistical support and timely provision of the refurbished APCs, which were immediately deployed for operational use.

The Command Sweepers Squad has been strategically stationed in Ijede to enable rapid deployment and coordinated response across Ikorodu and adjoining communities as part of ongoing efforts to curb crime and enhance public safety.
