LSSTF, Police Intensify Aerial Surveillance Across Lagos to Strengthen Security and Public Confidence
The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), in collaboration with the Lagos State Police Command and the Nigeria Police Air Wing, has intensified security operations across Lagos with an extensive aerial surveillance exercise aimed at enhancing public safety, boosting intelligence gathering, and reassuring residents of the government's commitment to protecting lives and property.
The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), in partnership with the Lagos State Police Command and the Nigeria Police Air Wing, on Saturday conducted a comprehensive aerial surveillance patrol across Lagos State as part of efforts to reinforce security and maintain public confidence in the state's safety architecture.
The operation was led by the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, alongside the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani; ACP Nsikan Boniface, Pilot, Nigeria Police Air Wing Department, Force Headquarters; CSP Dazi Manga; Admin Officer, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), DSP Saka Ayodele; and the LSSTF Director of Administration, Mr. Degbola Lewis.
The aerial patrol covered strategic locations across both the mainland and island corridors of Lagos, providing real-time situational awareness and supporting intelligence-driven security operations.
Speaking before the exercise, Dr. Ogunsan described the initiative as a proactive measure designed to strengthen public safety, improve rapid-response capabilities, and support security agencies in safeguarding residents and critical infrastructure across the state.
He noted that the surveillance operation is not a one-off exercise but part of an ongoing strategy to bolster security across Lagos.
“We started this mission a few months ago and made it clear that our objective is not to frighten anyone but to encourage Lagosians to support efforts aimed at keeping the state safe,” Ogunsan said.
According to him, the initial exercise recorded positive feedback from residents, prompting authorities to continue and expand the initiative.
“The first exercise was successful, and Lagosians responded positively. We promised to sustain it, and this operation is a follow-up. While we have been carrying out similar exercises quietly, recent security concerns make it important to keep residents informed,” he added.
Dr. Ogunsan also conveyed assurances from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu that the security of Lagos remains a top priority for the state government.
“The Governor has directed us to assure Lagosians that Lagos is safe and that ensuring the security of lives and property remains a key focus of his administration. This exercise is a message of hope, reassurance, and confidence that the government is committed to protecting residents,” he said.
He further emphasized the importance of collaboration between federal and state authorities in addressing security challenges.
“As a subnational government, we have a responsibility to complement national security efforts. While President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working to ensure the safety of Nigerians, states must also contribute their quota. We are taking to the skies to patrol the entire state, identify potential security concerns, and ensure prompt action where necessary,” Ogunsan stated.
The LSSTF boss urged residents not to be alarmed by the increased presence of surveillance aircraft over various parts of Lagos in the coming days.
“The airspace will be busier than usual, but Lagosians should not be concerned when they hear aircraft hovering over their communities. These operations are being carried out for your safety and security,” he said.
Also speaking, Commissioner of Police CP Fatai Tijani said the aerial surveillance initiative was aimed at boosting public confidence and demonstrating the readiness of law enforcement agencies to tackle criminal activities across all fronts.
“This operation is to reassure Lagosians that the Police are fully prepared to secure them. We are not only present on land but also in the air. Through aerial patrols, criminals will realize that there is no hiding place for them on land, at sea, or in the air,” the police commissioner said.
The LSSTF stated that the aerial patrols would continue on a sustained basis as part of a broader security strategy focused on enhanced surveillance, intelligence gathering, and operational effectiveness aimed at curbing criminal activities across Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub.
