NCJTFLCA Suspends President Basil Nwolisa Over Alleged Corruption, Abuse of Office

The National Compliance Joint Taskforce of Licensed Clearing Agents (NCJTFLCA) has announced the indefinite suspension of its Interim National President, Dr. Basil Nwolisa, over allegations bordering on corruption, abuse of office, misconduct and misrepresentation.

According to the organisation, the suspension followed several complaints and pending cases allegedly involving the embattled president.

Dr. Nwolisa was inaugurated as Interim National President of the NCJTFLCA on April 2, 2025, with a mandate to promote transparency, accountability and curb corruption within the maritime and logistics sector.

However, the organisation alleged that he used his office to mislead members of the public into purchasing non-existent auction containers purportedly linked to the Nigeria Customs Service. The matter, according to the group, allegedly resulted in his arrest and detention at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre earlier this year.

The NCJTFLCA further accused Dr. Nwolisa of diverting funds donated to the organisation into private accounts allegedly linked to him, including a Fidelity Bank account and another account reportedly operated under the name “Peacetoks Books Ent.” with Moniepoint.

The group also alleged that Dr. Nwolisa fraudulently withdrew the sum of N1 million from the organisation’s account, claiming the money was a personal gift from a friend.

In a statement issued by the Board of Trustees (BoT), the organisation said a formal query was earlier issued to Dr. Nwolisa to explain the allegations against him. Rather than respond to the allegations, the BoT claimed he allegedly launched attacks against members of the board.

The Board stated that following what it described as his “recalcitrant conduct,” it proceeded to suspend him from office and also disowned a publication credited to him accusing officers of the Nigeria Customs Service of lateness to duty.

The suspension was formalised in a letter dated May 19, 2026, directing Dr. Nwolisa to hand over all property belonging to the organisation in his possession.

The NCJTFLCA said the suspension remains in effect pending the determination and resolution of the various cases reportedly involving Dr. Nwolisa before the police and the courts.

The organisation added that the suspension took effect from Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
