Odunmbaku Urges Youths to Support Tinubu’s Reforms, Participate Actively in Politics

The Chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. David Odunmbaku, has called on Nigerian youths to support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the administration’s reforms are already producing positive results across the country.

Odunmbaku also urged young people to take active part in politics and governance in order to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development.

He made the remarks while receiving members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos Chapter, led by its chairman, Olalekan Adigun, during a courtesy visit to his office.

The council boss said youths should move beyond merely criticizing government policies and instead position themselves as agents of change through active political participation.

According to him, several policies introduced by President Tinubu, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and the removal of fuel subsidy, are already benefiting Nigerians, particularly young people.

“One of the reasons I joined politics is to change the narrative of governance. I left Nigeria at age 16 and returned when I was over 40, only to meet the same system. I had the option to leave again, but I decided to stay and contribute to making things work,” Odunmbaku said.

He stressed the need for youths to reposition themselves and embrace initiatives that promote national development, while discouraging drug abuse and cultism.

“As youths, you need to reposition yourselves. Campaigns against drug abuse and cultism are good, but we must also address the root causes. We are in the era of social media, and young people can use their voices to demand what is rightfully theirs,” he added.

Odunmbaku commended President Tinubu for what he described as bold and impactful reforms, noting that increased allocations to local governments following the removal of fuel subsidy have enabled councils to execute more developmental projects.

“In my whole life, I have not seen the kind of policies the current president is implementing, and I salute him for his bravery. Without the increased funds coming to local governments, we would not have been able to carry out many of the projects we are doing today,” he said.

The chairman disclosed that Ojodu LCDA is currently renovating five primary healthcare centres, with plans to commission three of them simultaneously.

He also praised the introduction of NELFUND, describing it as a landmark initiative targeted at empowering Nigerian youths through education support.

“It took me 10 years to become a council chairman, so youths should remain focused and steadfast. We must continue to support the policies of the President and believe in our institutions. At Ojodu LCDA, we will continue to support youth initiatives and the NYCN,” he assured.

Earlier, the Lagos NYCN chairman, Olalekan Adigun, commended Odunmbaku for what he described as transformative grassroots governance and impactful youth empowerment programmes in Ojodu LCDA.

Adigun said the visit was also aimed at introducing the council’s “Back2Street” initiative, designed to sensitise youths against drug abuse and cultism while promoting voter education.

He noted that among the 57 local governments and LCDAs visited by the council, Ojodu LCDA stands out for its performance and people-oriented programmes.

“One thing that distinguishes you from many grassroots administrators is your investment in lifting people out of poverty. You have empowered youths in areas where they have capacity and created opportunities for them to thrive,” Adigun said.

He added that the positive impact of Odunmbaku’s administration has become widely recognised across Lagos State.
