Oluremi Tinubu Rallies Women for National Development at Abuja Mega Empowerment Event

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday declared that women remain a critical force in shaping the nation’s future, as she addressed thousands at the National Women Mega Empowerment and Rally held at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, urging greater participation in governance and nation-building.

Speaking at the event, the First Lady emphasised that women, who constitute over half of Nigeria’s population, possess the capacity to influence meaningful national transformation if adequately empowered.

She commended the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, for implementing initiatives aimed at improving the economic wellbeing of women, noting that putting financial resources directly in their hands enhances decision-making within families and communities.

According to her, such empowerment efforts align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which seeks to expand opportunities for women and ensure their inclusion in leadership and decision-making processes.

Reiterating the President’s message from International Women’s Day, the First Lady highlighted the historical and ongoing contributions of Nigerian women to national development, stressing that the country’s progress is closely tied to their advancement.

A key highlight of the rally was the presentation of the Women’s Charter for National Development, which Mrs. Tinubu received on behalf of the President. She assured participants that the document, described as a policy framework reflecting the aspirations of Nigerian women, would be delivered to the President for consideration.

“The Charter represents our collective vision, and we are committed to seeing it implemented,” she said, while also acknowledging the resilience and sacrifices of women amid ongoing economic reforms.

She further urged mothers and caregivers to remain steadfast in nurturing responsible future leaders, emphasising the importance of discipline, patriotism, and moral upbringing.

In her address, Minister Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim described the gathering as the birth of a unified national movement of women, anchored on the “Power of 10 Million Women” initiative aimed at mobilising women across the country into a coordinated force for development.

She said the initiative seeks to transform women’s participation from fragmented efforts into structured influence, with a focus on political inclusion, economic empowerment, and social development.

The Minister credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for driving policy reforms that prioritise women, children, and vulnerable groups, noting that the administration has moved from policy formulation to tangible implementation.

Also speaking, the Wife of the Imo State Governor, Chioma Uzodimma, alongside Ogun State Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, described the initiative as a strategic shift toward coordinated national impact, emphasising that Nigerian women already contribute significantly across sectors but require stronger networks and alignment to maximise their influence.

They noted that the “Power of 10 Million Women” movement aims to connect women across all 774 local government areas, positioning them to actively shape governance, economic inclusion, and community development.

The event also featured the distribution of empowerment items to women, including tricycles, power tillers, sewing machines, grinding machines, hair dryers, and freezers, as part of efforts to support livelihoods and small-scale enterprises.
