OYOSUBEB Confirms Teacher Killed, Pupils Abducted in Attack on Oyo Schools

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board has confirmed the killing of a teacher and the abduction of several pupils following an attack on two schools in the Ahoro-Esinele community of Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Executive Chairman of OYOSUBEB, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, the Board described the incident as a “dark and painful moment” for the education sector in the state.

The affected schools are LA School, Ahoro-Esinele, and Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esinele, located within the Oriire LGUBEA area.

According to the statement, the exact number of abducted pupils had yet to be confirmed as security agencies were still combing the affected communities to establish full details of the attack.

OYOSUBEB assured parents and stakeholders that the safety of pupils remained a top priority, noting that security operatives under the coordination of the Commissioner of Police had taken charge of the situation.

The Board disclosed that a tactical response team had been deployed, while intelligence and rescue operations were ongoing to secure the safe return of the kidnapped pupils and restore peace to the community.

As part of precautionary measures, OYOSUBEB directed all primary schools in neighbouring local government areas, including Surulere, Oyo East, Oriire and Olorunsogo, to immediately vacate schools until further notice.

The Board said the temporary closure was aimed at preventing secondary incidents and allowing security agencies to stabilise the area.

Adeniran appealed to parents, guardians and community leaders to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.

He also expressed condolences to the family of the slain teacher, describing his death as a tragic loss to the education community.

“The Board remains committed to protecting the lives of every child in our care,” the statement added.
