OYRLEA Secures Conviction Over Road Obstruction, Warns Residents Against Dumping Building Materials

The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has intensified its crackdown on environmental and traffic violations, securing the conviction of a resident in Ibadan while warning against the indiscriminate dumping of building materials on public roads and walkways.

The enforcement action, carried out in the Yemetu area of Ibadan, led to the arrest of one Adebayo Adesumbo, who was found obstructing a public road with construction materials, including granite and sand.

Following his arrest, the offender was arraigned before the Oyo State Special Offences (Mobile) Court, where he pleaded guilty to the charge. The court subsequently convicted him and imposed a fine of ₦40,000.

In its reaction, OYRLEA cautioned residents, builders, and construction operators to desist from using roads and pedestrian walkways as storage or dumping sites for materials such as gravel, granite, stone dust, and sand. The Authority stressed that such practices not only disrupt free movement but also pose significant risks to public safety.

Reaffirming its mandate, OYRLEA stated that enforcement operations would be sustained across Oyo State, warning that violators of environmental and traffic regulations would continue to face prosecution.

The Chairperson of the Authority, Aderonke A. Aderemi, emphasized the agency’s commitment to upholding public order and ensuring compliance with the law.
