TYO National Competition Ends with Impressive Showcase of Youth Oratory and Critical Thinking

The 2026 edition of the TYO National Competition has concluded, highlighting outstanding performances in public speaking, critical thinking, and personal development among Nigerian youths.

The four-day boot camp began on April 27, with semifinal rounds held on April 29 and the grand finale on April 30. The closing ceremony was marked by an emotional and celebratory atmosphere as the winner emerged to loud applause from participants, organisers, and guests.

Contestants were evaluated on key competencies including reasoning, content development, speech structure, audibility, and audience engagement. Organisers said the competition underscored the importance of structured youth development and the potential of young people when given the right platform and guidance.

The TYO initiative, a flagship programme of the Peat Philips Foundation, is designed to groom confident leaders and effective communicators. It is built on the principle that leadership is demonstrated not only through speech but also through consistent, value-driven actions.

During the boot camp, participants underwent intensive training sessions covering speech development, clarity of purpose, goal-setting, character building, and audience engagement. The programme also encouraged peer-to-peer learning, fostering collaboration and exchange of ideas among participants.

Organisers noted that beyond the competition, TYO remains a transformative platform committed to raising articulate young Nigerians capable of representing the country on global stages.

The competition also serves as a selection pathway for Nigeria’s representative at the International Public Speaking Competition scheduled to take place in the United Kingdom in July 2026.

Looking ahead, preparations are already in motion for the 2027 edition of the TYO Boot Camp. Organisers expressed optimism about securing increased support from sponsors and strategic partners to expand the initiative’s reach and enhance its impact on youth development across Nigeria and Africa.
