Union Bank Wins ASBON Award for SME Banking Initiatives
Union Bank of Nigeria has been honoured with the Best SME Growth Banking Initiatives Award for 2025 by the Association of Small Business Owners of Nigeria at the Nigeria National SME Business Awards held in Lagos.
The award recognised the bank’s contributions to the growth and resilience of small and medium-sized enterprises through tailored financial solutions and strategic initiatives aimed at supporting business expansion and long-term sustainability.
Receiving the award on behalf of the bank, Ayokunnumi Abraham, Head of SME Segment at Union Bank, described the recognition as an endorsement of the bank’s commitment to empowering SMEs across Nigeria.
According to him, Union Bank has continued to simplify banking processes for small businesses through digital innovation and customer-focused solutions.
“We are honoured to receive this recognition, which reflects Union Bank’s continued commitment to helping SMEs grow by making banking simpler, faster, and more accessible,” Abraham said.
He explained that improvements to the bank’s specialised digital platforms, including Union360, have significantly reduced onboarding time for businesses, increased digital adoption among SME customers, and supported the acquisition of new business clients.
“Our focus remains on delivering practical solutions that help Nigerian businesses thrive,” he added.
The Nigeria National SME Business Awards was organised by ASBON in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment and brought together stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to celebrate individuals and organisations contributing to the development of Nigeria’s SME ecosystem.
Established in 1917, Union Bank is one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions with a nationwide network of over 300 branches and a strong focus on digital banking innovation. The bank provides a range of financial services to individuals, businesses, and public sector clients across the country.
