Wema Bank Announces Final Call for Entries for One-Day MD/CEO Children’s Day Initiative

Wema Bank has announced the final call for submissions for children and teenagers interested in participating in its One-Day MD/CEO initiative, as the entry deadline of May 20, 2026, draws near.

The initiative, first launched in May 2025 as part of the bank’s 80th anniversary celebration, was designed to commemorate Children’s Day by giving young Nigerians a unique opportunity to experience leadership at the highest level of banking.

Inspired by the anniversary theme, “80 Years of Impact, A Future of Possibilities,” the programme aims to inspire children and teenagers to dream big and explore future career opportunities in leadership and finance.

Last year’s edition gained nationwide attention after 12-year-old Chiderije Mbah emerged winner, becoming Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank for one day on Children’s Day, May 27, 2025. The initiative received praise from parents and stakeholders who commended the bank’s commitment to youth empowerment and child development.

According to the bank, the 2026 edition has returned on a larger scale, offering another child or teenager between the ages of 0 and 16 the chance to step into the role of MD/CEO of Wema Bank for one day.

The winner will participate in executive-level activities, including overseeing board meetings, making strategic decisions and experiencing the responsibilities that come with leading one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions.

Wema Bank, regarded as Nigeria’s oldest indigenous national bank and pioneer of Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT, said interested participants are required to create a 60-second video explaining their ideal role in banking and the impact they hope to make.

Participants are expected to post the video on any social media platform using the hashtag #EvolutionOfPossibilities while tagging @wemabank. The entry with the highest number of likes will emerge winner.

The winner will serve as MD/CEO of Wema Bank for one day on Monday, May 25, 2026, as part of activities marking Children’s Day celebration.

The bank urged parents and teenagers to submit their entries before the deadline on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
