WIMA Nigeria, FESAN to Host Webinar on Advancing Women’s Role in Maritime Sector

Women in Maritime Africa Nigeria, in collaboration with Female Seafarers Association of Nigeria, is set to convene maritime stakeholders, industry leaders, and female professionals for a high-level webinar aimed at promoting inclusion and advancing opportunities for women in the maritime sector.

The virtual event, scheduled for May 18, 2026, by 2:00 PM, is being organised to commemorate the International Day for Women in Maritime and will focus on the theme: “From Policy to Practice: Advancing Maritime Excellence for Women.”

According to the organisers, the webinar is designed to bridge the gap between policy frameworks and the practical realities faced by women working within the maritime industry, particularly female seafarers.

The session is expected to feature robust discussions on leadership, inclusion, professionalism, and sustainable pathways for increasing women’s participation and influence across the maritime value chain.

Adding prominence to the event is the announcement of Dr. (Mrs.) Faith Izibenua Zibs-Godwin, Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, Bayelsa State, as the keynote speaker.

The organisers described her as a respected leader in the marine and blue economy sector whose contributions to industry development are expected to enrich discussions and inspire actionable outcomes during the engagement.

They further noted that the collaboration between WIMA Nigeria and FESAN reflects a deliberate effort to move beyond advocacy by fostering strategic partnerships, improving visibility for women in maritime, and creating meaningful opportunities for career advancement within the sector.

Participants at the webinar are also expected to engage directly with industry experts, share experiences, and gain practical insights into promoting excellence and gender inclusion in the maritime industry.

Registration for the webinar remains open through Zoom Registration Page.https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/afB5O8ewRGK6zXUxLLHPbQ
