First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Assures Nigerians on Security, Disburses N100m Grant to 2,000 Women in Ekiti
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed confidence that the country will overcome its security challenges, assuring Nigerians that the Federal Government, in collaboration with international partners, is working relentlessly to tackle insecurity. She made the remarks during her first official visit to Ekiti State, where she also disbursed a N100 million business recapitalisation grant to 2,000 women petty traders.
The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reassured Nigerians that the nation’s security challenges will be overcome through the continued efforts of the Federal Government, security agencies, and support from international partners.
Speaking on Saturday during her first official state visit to Ekiti State, Senator Tinubu made the assurance while addressing members of the Ekiti State Traditional Rulers’ Council at the Government House in Ado-Ekiti.
According to the First Lady, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to addressing insecurity and is working tirelessly to ensure that the challenge is effectively curtailed.
She described the situation as troubling but noted that several countries, including the United States and France, are providing support to Nigeria’s security efforts.
“Most of the people causing this unrest are non-Nigerians, although security challenges do exist within the country. Some of the information regarding these efforts is highly classified, but I can assure you that America, France, and other developed countries are assisting Nigeria,” she said.
Senator Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria remains a blessed and resilient nation, stressing that the country is too great to be intimidated by its current challenges.
“Nigeria is richly blessed. You can see the beauty from Ekiti State alone. We cannot give up on Nigeria. These challenges will soon be behind us,” she added.
The First Lady urged Nigerians, particularly women, to remain prayerful and hopeful, expressing confidence that the country would emerge stronger.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Traditional Rulers’ Council and the Ogoga of Ikere-Ekiti, Oba Adu Adejimi Alagbado, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for implementing policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.
The monarch said he had confidence in the President’s leadership, recalling his achievements as Governor of Lagos State. He, however, appealed to the Federal Government to intensify efforts in tackling kidnapping and other security concerns affecting Ekiti and other parts of the country.
As part of her visit, Senator Tinubu distributed a N100 million Business Recapitalisation Grant to 2,000 women petty traders in Ekiti State, with each beneficiary receiving N50,000.
She explained that the grant was designed to support women-owned micro-businesses, strengthen family livelihoods, and contribute to economic growth.
The First Lady, who was accompanied by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; APC National Women Leader, Dr. Mary Alile Idele; and the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, also mobilised support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji ahead of the state’s forthcoming governorship election.
The wife of the governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, alongside other governors’ wives and political leaders present at the event, called on residents to support the incumbent governor’s re-election bid and President Tinubu’s continuity agenda in 2027.
Senator Tinubu highlighted several projects executed in Ekiti State under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), including annual scholarships worth N1 million and laptops for selected students from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with beneficiaries from Ekiti among the recipients.
She also noted that the initiative donated 10,000 exercise books to public schools in Ekiti in 2024 and facilitated bursary awards and scholarships through a partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education.
According to her, Ekiti State received 100 bursary slots out of the 5,100 awarded in 2024, while 40 students from the state benefited from the 1,500 scholarships offered in 2025 for students from 200 level to PhD level.
Other interventions include the launch of Environment Clubs in schools across the state in November 2025 and the distribution of 10,000 packs of sanitary pads to schoolgirls under the RHI “Flow with Confidence” programme.
The First Lady also announced a cash reward of N200 million for the two best graduating students—one male and one female—of Ekiti State University. The announcement came after she commissioned the TETFund-sponsored ICT Experience Centre during her visit to the institution.
