Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA Records high Compliance as Residents Participate in Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise
The Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has recorded widespread compliance and active resident participation in the Lagos State Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise, as communities across all five wards engaged in coordinated clean-up activities aimed at promoting public health, environmental sustainability, and improved waste management.
Residents of the Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA on Saturday took part in the exercise, which held between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., clearing drains, sweeping streets, desilting gutters, and ensuring proper disposal of waste at designated collection points across the council area.
The Executive Chairman of the LCDA, Omo'ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, led monitoring activities across Wards C1 and C2, where he was joined by key political office holders and council officials.
Among them were the Leader of the House, Hon. Basirat Adetutu Banjoko, the Deputy Leader, Hon. Hakeem Solawon, members of the executive cabinet, councillors, environmental officers, and other stakeholders who mobilised residents across communities.
Speaking during the exercise, Aroyewun described environmental sanitation as a civic responsibility rather than a government-imposed routine, stressing that community participation remains key to maintaining a healthy environment.
He noted that the strong turnout across wards demonstrated growing public awareness of the importance of environmental hygiene and sustainable waste management.
The Council’s Department of Environmental Services and Waste Management deployed personnel, sanitation tools, and waste evacuation trucks to strategic locations to support the exercise and ensure prompt disposal of refuse generated during the clean-up.
The Supervisor for Environment and Waste Management, Hon. Dauda Oshinlaja, said the council’s environmental strategy extends beyond the monthly exercise, adding that routine waste evacuation would continue across communities.
In Ward C3, Hon. Saidat Adeoba Odeyemi led residents in coordinated sanitation activities across Baiyeku, Oreta, Offin, and adjoining areas, mobilising households to clear drainage channels and improve waste disposal practices.
Ward C4 also recorded strong participation, with the Vice Chairman, Barr. Ade Ayeni, alongside Hon. Yusuf Bello, coordinating clean-up efforts and supervising waste evacuation activities.
Residents in Ward C5 similarly complied with the sanitation directive, contributing to what officials described as one of the most coordinated editions of the exercise in recent times.
The Lagos State Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise, introduced under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is designed to reduce environmental pollution, prevent flooding caused by blocked drainage systems, and strengthen community health outcomes across the state.
Council authorities commended residents for their participation, noting that the exercise coincided with the Eid-el-Kabir festive period but still recorded significant turnout across all wards.
The Chairman also praised environmental officers, community leaders, and stakeholders for their commitment to sustaining a cleaner and healthier environment.
Residents were further encouraged to maintain proper waste disposal habits and support ongoing environmental initiatives beyond the monthly exercise, as part of efforts to build a safer and more sustainable community.
