LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that its late Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, DCP Khan Salihu, was kidnapped before his death, describing the claims as false, misleading and entirely fabricated.

In a statement issued by the Command's spokesperson, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, the police clarified that the senior officer died on Monday, June 15, after a brief illness and had no involvement in any criminal incident prior to his death.

According to the Command, DCP Salihu had reported for duty at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters before complaining of feeling unwell. He was subsequently rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention, where medical personnel confirmed him dead.

The Command stressed that the late officer was never abducted or kidnapped, contrary to reports being circulated online.

"At no time was he abducted, kidnapped, or involved in any incident remotely connected to criminal activity as falsely portrayed in the publication," the statement said.

The police expressed concern over what it described as the irresponsible dissemination of unverified information, noting that the false reports have caused unnecessary distress to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased officer.

The Command further criticized the publication of the report without proper verification from relevant authorities, describing it as a breach of the principles of responsible journalism.

"The publication is not only inaccurate but also insensitive, particularly at a time when the Command, family members and loved ones are mourning the loss of a dedicated and accomplished senior police officer who served the nation with distinction," the statement added.

The Lagos State Police Command demanded an immediate withdrawal of the report and urged the media platform responsible to issue a public correction and apology in the interest of professionalism and accountability.

It also advised members of the public to disregard the alleged kidnap story and rely only on information released through official channels.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating misinformation and ensuring that accurate, timely and verified information is made available to the public.

DCP Khan Salihu was buried on Tuesday in accordance with Islamic rites. Colleagues and associates have described him as a dedicated officer, respected administrator and loyal public servant whose contributions to the Nigeria Police Force will be remembered.
