IGBOGBO, LAGOS – The Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has expanded its grassroots healthcare intervention programme, with more than 1,500 residents benefiting from its Free Optimal Wellness Outreach initiative. The second edition of the programme, held at Oreyo Grammar School in Igbogbo, provided free medical services to 524 residents in Zone 2, reinforcing the council's commitment to accessible healthcare delivery.

The outreach programme, a flagship initiative of the administration of the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, offered free medical consultations, treatment, diagnostic screenings, eye care services, health counselling, and referrals for advanced healthcare.

According to the council, the latest exercise brings the total number of beneficiaries to over 1,500, following the participation of more than 1,000 residents during the maiden edition held in Zone 1.

Residents who attended the outreach received a range of healthcare services, including blood pressure and blood sugar checks, Hepatitis B screening, eye examinations, prescription eyeglasses for eligible participants, referral services for specialised care, and health education sessions focused on disease prevention and healthy living.

Many beneficiaries praised the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that addresses the healthcare needs of residents, particularly those facing financial challenges in accessing quality medical services.

Speaking during the outreach, Chairman Aroyewun reiterated his administration's commitment to ensuring that healthcare remains accessible to all residents, regardless of their economic background.

"Healthcare is not a privilege reserved for a few. It is a fundamental necessity that every resident deserves access to. Our goal is simple: to ensure that no member of our community is denied basic healthcare because of financial limitations or lack of access," he said.

The chairman noted that the Free Optimal Wellness Outreach would continue as a monthly programme under the council's GLORY Agenda, with plans to extend the initiative to all zones within the LCDA.

He also encouraged residents to adopt preventive healthcare practices by taking advantage of regular medical check-ups and screenings.

Aroyewun commended the volunteer medical professionals, healthcare workers, and support personnel whose contributions ensured the success of the outreach.

Also speaking at the event, Professor Nurudeen Oshinlaja, Director-General of the Ona Ogo Movement, described the initiative as evidence of people-centred governance and a practical effort to improve residents' welfare.

He disclosed that the administration was developing additional social intervention programmes aimed at strengthening food security, social welfare, and educational support across communities within the LCDA.

"The health outreach is only one component of a broader vision to improve the quality of life of our people. More interventions are being developed to address other critical areas affecting households within our communities," Oshinlaja said.

The Free Optimal Wellness Outreach is part of the healthcare component of the administration's GLORY Agenda and is designed to bridge healthcare gaps at the grassroots level through preventive care, early diagnosis, treatment, and public health education.

Council officials said the programme would continue to expand across the remaining zones of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA as part of efforts to ensure that quality healthcare services reach more residents.
