LASWA Partners Apollo Africa Leadership Foundation to Boost Youth Leadership, Blue Economy Development
The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Apollo Africa Leadership Foundation (AALF) to promote youth leadership development, community engagement, environmental sustainability and capacity building in support of Lagos State's growing blue economy.
The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has signed a strategic partnership with the Apollo Africa Leadership Foundation (AALF) to strengthen leadership development, youth empowerment and community impact in line with Lagos State's blue economy agenda.
The partnership was formalised during a meeting at LASWA's headquarters, where representatives of both organisations explored opportunities for collaboration on programmes aimed at equipping young Nigerians with leadership skills while promoting sustainable development in waterfront communities.
Speaking during the meeting, LASWA General Manager and Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Blue Economy, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, said strategic partnerships are essential for driving innovation and sustainable economic growth through active youth participation.
He noted that the development of the blue economy depends on visionary leadership, community involvement and collaboration among stakeholders.
"The growth of the blue economy requires visionary leadership, community participation and strategic partnerships. We are pleased to collaborate with the Apollo Africa Leadership Foundation in promoting leadership excellence, capacity development and initiatives that will positively impact waterfront communities and stakeholders within the waterways sector," Emmanuel said.
Under the partnership, both organisations will implement leadership training programmes, youth development initiatives, community outreach projects, environmental sustainability advocacy campaigns and knowledge-sharing engagements designed to build the human capital required to support the state's emerging blue economy.
Director of the Apollo Africa Leadership Foundation, Ayo Akindele, described leadership as one of Africa's most valuable resources, stressing that developing future leaders requires collaboration between the public and private sectors.
According to him, the partnership with LASWA will provide opportunities to empower young people with the skills, exposure and mindset needed to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development and economic growth across Lagos State, Nigeria and the African continent.
The collaboration aligns with the Lagos State Government's vision of positioning the blue economy as a driver of economic growth, job creation, environmental sustainability and improved living standards.
Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to implementing impactful programmes that will nurture young leaders while promoting safety, sustainability and inclusive development across Lagos State's waterways communities.
LASWA is the agency responsible for regulating, developing and promoting safe, efficient and sustainable water transportation across Lagos State, while the Apollo Africa Leadership Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to combating poverty, hunger and illiteracy through leadership development and youth empowerment initiatives across Africa.
