First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Urges Women to Support One Another as NBA President-Elect Visits

 First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on women to support one another in order to break barriers and secure greater representation in leadership, while receiving the President-Elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, at her office in Abuja.

The First Lady said women stand a better chance of breaking the glass ceiling and achieving their aspirations when they work together and encourage one another.

Speaking during the courtesy visit, Senator Tinubu described Badejo-Okusanya's emergence as the NBA President-Elect as a significant milestone for women across Nigeria, noting that it demonstrates what can be achieved through dedication, unity and collaboration.

"You should set the bar and make room for other women coming behind you. This victory means a lot for women in general," she said.

The First Lady also highlighted the growing presence of women in key positions within Nigeria's judiciary, pointing out that the Chief Judge, the President of the Court of Appeal and now the NBA President-Elect are all women.

"Women are achieving a lot," she added.

Senator Tinubu described the visit as memorable and prayed for a successful tenure for the incoming NBA president.

She also commended Prof. Foluke Dada-Lawanson, who was initially in the race for the NBA presidency but later stepped down in support of Badejo-Okusanya, describing the move as an uncommon display of sportsmanship and solidarity among women.

Earlier, Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya praised the First Lady for her humanitarian interventions through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), particularly its support for vulnerable Nigerians.

She said Senator Tinubu had set a worthy example of service and leadership through the initiative.

"Your work with the Renewed Hope Initiative, in addition to your responsibilities as First Lady, is like a full-time job. You have set an example for others to emulate. We appreciate all that you have been doing for Nigerians," she said.

The NBA President-Elect also expressed the association's readiness to partner with the First Lady and the Renewed Hope Initiative by providing pro bono legal services for vulnerable members of society.

According to Badejo-Okusanya, the visit was aimed at sharing the joy of her election with the First Lady.

Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya was elected on July 19, 2026, as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association. Her victory is regarded as a landmark achievement, as she becomes the first woman to be directly elected and the second female president in the association's history.
