LAGOS, Nigeria – MicCom Cables & Wires Ltd. and the Cable Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (CAMAN) have renewed calls for stronger engineering standards, local manufacturing and strategic partnerships as critical drivers of Nigeria's industrial transformation and economic growth.
The call was made during the Nigeria Oil & Gas (NOG) Energy Week 2026 and the 34th Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) Assembly, where industry leaders emphasized the importance of engineering excellence, indigenous capacity development and collaboration in building a more resilient economy.
Representing both MicCom Cables & Wires Ltd. and CAMAN, the President of CAMAN, Bukola Adubi, FNSE, participated in a panel session at NOG Energy Week titled "Strengthening Domestic Value Creation – Import Substitution and Strategic Partnerships." The discussion focused on reducing Nigeria's reliance on imports while strengthening local manufacturing capabilities.
Adubi stressed that local content should move beyond policy objectives to become a practical catalyst for industrial competitiveness. She noted that Nigeria already possesses substantial manufacturing capacity but said sustained growth would depend on consistent procurement policies, stronger collaboration among manufacturers, operators, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors and regulators, as well as an unwavering commitment to quality and international standards.
She also reaffirmed CAMAN's commitment to advocating policies that promote fair competition, eliminate substandard products from the market and create an enabling environment for indigenous manufacturers to thrive.
According to her, these measures are essential for developing resilient supply chains, creating skilled employment opportunities and positioning Nigerian manufacturers to compete effectively in regional and international markets.
The conversation on industrial development continued at the 34th COREN Assembly, where engineering professionalism and ethical practice were highlighted as critical pillars for sustainable infrastructure development and long-term industrial growth.
Speaking on the significance of the Assembly, Adubi said, "Engineering remains the bridge between national ambition and national achievement. When competence, ethics and quality become non-negotiable, industrial growth naturally follows."
