Leaders Hail Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA Chairman as Groundbreaking Begins for Zumratul Islamiyyah Primary School
Political leaders, education stakeholders and traditional rulers have commended the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Omo'ba Ahmed Olalekan Aroyewun, for what they described as impactful grassroots governance, as the council commenced the construction of the proposed Zumratul Islamiyyah Primary School in Igbogbo.
The groundbreaking ceremony, which coincided with the chairman's 365 days in office, was attended by prominent government officials, legislators, education administrators, traditional rulers and community leaders, all of whom described the project as a major investment in the future of education within the council area.
Among the dignitaries present were the member representing Kosofe Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanni Ganiu Babatunde Okanlawon; Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Defence and member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Hon. Babajimi Benson; Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Education District II, Mr. Sanni Omotayo; Education Secretary of the Ikorodu Local Government Education Authority, Alhaji Taiwo Odumbo; Hon. Aro Moshood (AMA); the Oba of Igbogbo Kingdom, HRM Oba AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali (Emugoriade I), as well as other government officials and residents.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Okanlawon lauded Aroyewun for fulfilling his social contract with the people through visible developmental projects and prudent leadership.
According to the lawmaker, the chairman has demonstrated that effective governance is possible despite the financial limitations confronting local governments, noting that the administration's infrastructure projects across the LCDA reflect its commitment to improving the welfare of residents.
He urged the council chairman to sustain the momentum by expanding development initiatives into other critical sectors, expressing confidence that greater achievements would be recorded with increased resources and continued public support.
Okanlawon also commended the harmonious working relationship between the executive and legislative arms of the council, describing the collaboration as one of the major factors responsible for the administration's achievements.
As part of activities marking his first anniversary in office, Aroyewun presented brand-new official vehicles to the five elected councillors in the LCDA. He also handed over vehicles to the Vice Chairman, Barrister Ayeni, the Chief of Staff and the Council Manager in recognition of their dedication and to enhance their mobility in the discharge of official responsibilities.
Council officials described the gesture as unprecedented and one that would significantly improve governance at the grassroots.
The Leader of the Legislative Council, Princess Basirat Taditutu Banjoko, said the provision of official vehicles would strengthen legislative oversight, improve service delivery and enable councillors to engage more effectively with their constituents.
On the education project, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Education District II, Mr. Sanni Omotayo, noted that increasing school enrolment across Lagos State has made the construction of additional public schools imperative.
He explained that the state government remains committed to expanding educational infrastructure through prototype classroom projects and other interventions aimed at providing a more conducive learning environment for pupils.
Similarly, the Education Secretary of the Ikorodu Local Government Education Authority, Alhaji Taiwo Odumbo, applauded the council chairman for responding swiftly to the educational needs of the Igbogbo community through the construction of the proposed Zumratul Islamiyyah Primary School.
The traditional ruler of Igbogbo Kingdom, HRM Oba AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali (Emugoriade I), described the project as a landmark investment that would positively impact generations of children by expanding access to quality public education.
Also speaking, Hon. Babajimi Benson reaffirmed his commitment to supporting educational infrastructure and human capital development across Ikorodu Federal Constituency, describing education as the foundation for sustainable community development.
When completed, the Zumratul Islamiyyah Primary School is expected to reduce overcrowding in existing public primary schools within Igbogbo and neighbouring communities while providing pupils with modern classrooms and an improved learning environment.
The groundbreaking ceremony underscored the Aroyewun administration's emphasis on education, infrastructure development and institutional strengthening as it begins its second year in office.
