LiquidCrest Microfinance Bank Celebrates 30 Years of Financial Inclusion, Unveils Technology-Driven Growth Strategy

LAGOS – LiquidCrest Microfinance Bank has celebrated more than three decades of providing financial services to Nigerians, marking its transformation from the former Owotutu Microfinance Bank into a technology-driven institution committed to expanding financial inclusion and supporting the growth of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

The bank said the milestone reflects its evolution from a community-based financial institution into a modern microfinance bank licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), with an expanded range of digital banking products and services.

Originally established as Owotutu Microfinance Bank, the institution focused on providing savings and credit facilities to underserved communities at a time when access to formal banking services was limited for many Nigerians.

Following a change in management, the bank embarked on a comprehensive transformation of its operations, upgrading its technology, improving customer service, and repositioning the institution under the new name, LiquidCrest Microfinance Bank.

According to the bank, the rebranding signifies more than a name change, reflecting its commitment to technology-enabled banking, broader financial solutions, and stronger support for individuals and small businesses nationwide.

LiquidCrest currently offers a range of financial products, including SME and micro-business loans, personal and public sector loans, savings plans, and investment products designed to meet the needs of customers across different income levels.

Speaking on the milestone, Acting Managing Director of the bank, Ayobami Alabi, said the institution's transformation has remained focused on improving service delivery while retaining its commitment to the communities it serves.

"Our growth from Owotutu to LiquidCrest is a story of staying true to the people we serve while improving our capacity to serve them better. Every system we have upgraded and every product we have introduced has been driven by one question: what does the Nigerian business owner or salary earner actually need?" Alabi said.

The bank noted that promoting financial inclusion remains central to its operations, particularly through lending products targeted at MSMEs that often face challenges accessing credit from conventional financial institutions.

Its SME and Micro Business Loan programme provides financing ranging from ₦50,000 to ₦2 million for individual borrowers and up to ₦10 million for corporate customers, with flexible repayment options aimed at addressing working capital needs.

Also speaking, Head of Sales, Eyitayo Raufu, said the institution's longevity has been built on supporting entrepreneurs and expanding access to finance.

"Financial inclusion is not a tagline. It is the reason this institution has survived and grown across three decades. We have watched businesses start, stumble, and scale because they had access to the right financing at the right time. That legacy is what we carry into the next phase of this institution," he said.

LiquidCrest said it will continue investing in digital banking infrastructure while expanding its presence across Nigeria to provide accessible and customer-focused financial services that support sustainable economic growth.

Formerly known as Owotutu Microfinance Bank, LiquidCrest Microfinance Bank is a CBN-licensed microfinance institution headquartered in Ilupeju, Lagos, offering loan, savings, and investment solutions to individuals, micro-enterprises, and small businesses across the country.
