LSSTF Donates 28-Seater Bus, 60 Raincoats to Lagos Immigration Command, NIS Repatriates 128 Illegal Migrants in Two Weeks
The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has donated a 28-seater coaster bus and 60 raincoats to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Lagos State Command, to strengthen border security, migration management and operational efficiency, as the Command disclosed that it repatriated 128 irregular migrants within the last two weeks.
The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has reinforced its commitment to strengthening security in Lagos by donating a 28-seater coaster bus and 60 raincoat jackets to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Lagos State Command, to improve operational mobility and personnel welfare.
The presentation, held on Tuesday, July 14, forms part of the state's broader strategy to enhance border security, migration management and inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding Nigeria's commercial capital.
Presenting the items, the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, commended the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service for its dedication to securing the state through effective migration control and border management.
He described the Service as a dependable partner in the state's security architecture, assuring it of the Fund's continued support.
"Let me specially appreciate the Nigerian Immigration Service, Lagos Command, for believing in Lagos and for doing your best to ensure our state remains safe. Whoever is committed to keeping Lagos secure will always find a dependable partner in the Lagos State Security Trust Fund," Ogunsan said.
He urged the officers to make judicious use of the donated equipment, noting that greater responsibility comes with increased support.
"To whom much is given, much is expected. I am encouraged by your commitment to scale up operations for a safer Lagos, and I assure you that we will continue to support the Nigerian Immigration Service in every way possible," he added.
Ogunsan attributed the intervention to the leadership of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and expressed appreciation to the Fund's donors, Board of Trustees and Lagos residents whose contributions continue to sustain security interventions across the state.
He also acknowledged the leadership of the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, for her efforts in strengthening the Service nationwide.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Comptroller General, the Comptroller of Immigration, Lagos State Command, Christopher Olu Onajinrin, described the gesture as timely and strategic, saying it would significantly enhance the Command's operational capacity.
He thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Tayo Ayinde, the LSSTF and its Chief Executive Officer for the support.
"We sincerely appreciate Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Tayo Ayinde, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund and the CEO, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan for this generous support. I assure Lagosians that these resources will be deployed in their best interest," Onajinrin said.
"As the lead agency in migration and border management, we are determined to intensify our operations against irregular migration so that residents can continue to sleep with both eyes closed."
The Comptroller revealed that the Command had intensified enforcement against irregular migration, disclosing that 128 undocumented migrants from Cameroon, Chad and Burkina Faso were repatriated within the last two weeks.
According to him, the newly donated coaster bus will significantly improve logistics, reduce operational costs, enhance response time and support personnel deployment during repatriation and other enforcement activities.
He noted that migration enforcement operations often involve extensive transportation logistics, making the vehicle a critical addition to the Command's resources.
The donation reflects the Lagos State Government's sustained investment in strengthening security institutions through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, with a focus on improving border management, promoting lawful migration and preventing security threats before they emerge.
