Ogunsan Emphasises Human Capacity as LSSTF Trains Security Operatives to Strengthen Inter-Agency Collaboration
The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security in the state through sustained investment in human capacity development, as it held the fifth edition of its Statewide Inter-Agency Training Programme for security operatives, bringing together personnel from various agencies to enhance professionalism, intelligence sharing and operational collaboration.
The Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, said the initiative reflects the agency's conviction that people remain the most valuable resource in any security organisation, stressing that effective policing depends more on well-trained personnel than on equipment alone.
Speaking at the July edition of the programme in Lagos, Ogunsan noted that although the Trust Fund has continued to provide logistics and operational support to security agencies, it became imperative to also prioritise the training and retraining of officers.
"I am a people-oriented person and I believe so much in people because they are the greatest asset God has given any organisation. Equipment is important and logistics are essential, but it is the human being behind every operation that ultimately determines success or failure," he said.
According to him, the monthly training programme, which commenced in March, has become a strategic platform for equipping security personnel with practical knowledge while promoting stronger collaboration among agencies.
He disclosed that the initiative would continue throughout his tenure, describing continuous capacity building as a permanent investment in Lagos State's security architecture.
Ogunsan also urged participants to take advantage of the networking opportunities provided by the programme, saying relationships built across agencies would improve coordination and effectiveness during operations.
The LSSTF boss commended the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani, for his consistent support, while acknowledging the contributions of the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Man O' War Nigeria and other stakeholders.
In his remarks, CP Tijani praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the LSSTF and Ogunsan for sustaining what he described as a transformative investment in the development of security personnel.
He said officers who had participated in previous editions consistently returned to duty with improved professionalism, competence and a renewed commitment to service.
"The impact has been remarkable. Whenever our officers return from this programme, we see noticeable improvements in their attitude, professionalism and performance. They come back better equipped to carry out their responsibilities," the police commissioner said.
Tijani added that the initiative had also strengthened collaboration among security agencies by creating opportunities for officers to interact, exchange experiences and build lasting professional relationships that enhance joint operations.
The Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lagos State Command, Mr. Babajide Adisa, represented by the Deputy Director of Security Vetting, Mr. Waheed Akande, described the programme as a timely initiative that reinforces collaboration, professional development and effective coordination among security agencies.
He urged participants to maximise the opportunity to learn and build stronger partnerships, expressing confidence that the relationships fostered through the training would further enhance the collective capacity of security agencies to keep Lagos safe.
Also speaking, the Lagos State Commander of Man O' War Nigeria, MC Ayodele Ajayi, described the training as an avenue for building trust, strengthening inter-agency relationships and improving coordinated responses to emerging security challenges.
Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Lagos State Command, Apostle Kehinde A. Showemimo, also commended the LSSTF for sustaining the initiative, noting that continuous learning, stronger partnerships and community-driven policing remain critical to addressing today's security challenges.
