PSC Promotes 93 Senior Police Officers, Elevates 13 Commissioners to AIG Rank
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 93 senior police officers across various ranks, including the elevation of 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) and 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to Commissioners of Police (CPs).
The promotions were approved during the Commission's plenary meeting held on Wednesday at its corporate headquarters in Abuja, following the officers' successful performance in the recently concluded written examination and oral interview.
Among the 13 newly promoted Assistant Inspectors General of Police are Itam Nnaghe Obono, formerly Commissioner of Police, Counter Terrorism Unit; Bassey Samuel Ewah of Plateau State Command; Osagie John Agans-Irabor of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Lagos; Monday Agbonika of Edo State; Iyamah Daniel Adebor of Bayelsa State; Isa Danladi Nda of Abia State; Akaninyene Ezima, Director of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC); Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu of Anambra State; Afegbua B. Rashid of Cross River State; Edozie Hycenth Azuka of FCID; Haruna Alaba Yahaya of Jigawa State; Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent of Benue State; and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, Commissioner of Police, Welfare.
The Commission also promoted 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the substantive rank of Commissioner of Police. The beneficiaries include Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle A. Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Oki Rita Oyintare, Ibrahim Umar Zungura, Iya Umar Mohammed, Darma Nuhu Na'aliyu, Nuruddeen A. Sabo, Tijjani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Lukunche Usman, Akingbade C. Adeyinka, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, Samuel Erale Ahmed, Adedeji Taiwo, and Zainab A. Pembi.
In addition, 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police were elevated to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police. Among them are Ofili Felix, Mohammed Baba-Mala, Deborah O. Benary, Mohammed Sani Musa, Lot Garba Lantoh, Ijeoma Princewill Onyema, Oyedepo Olubisi, Amanyi Christopher, and Regina Mbanefo.
The Commission further approved the promotion of 33 Chief Superintendents of Police to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police. Those promoted include Mustapha Lawal, Gafar Ajayi Adeyanju, and Nnamdi Lotanna Anabike, among others.
The PSC also confirmed the appointments of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II (ASP II) to the substantive rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I (ASP I).
Speaking after the promotions, PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (Rtd.), congratulated the officers and urged them to uphold professionalism, integrity, transparency, and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
He cautioned the newly promoted officers against involvement in civil disputes, particularly land-related matters, while reminding them to protect their reputation and remember that there is life after retirement.
"Guide your reputation and integrity. Let your actions speak for you and not against you," Argungu advised.
