President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for the successful remodeling of the Abuja City Gate, describing the landmark as a powerful symbol of Nigeria's unity in diversity and a reflection of the nation's pride.

The President, represented by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, inaugurated the remodeled Abuja City Gate on Thursday, urging residents of the Federal Capital Territory to protect and preserve the iconic public infrastructure.

Speaking during the ceremony, Tinubu emphasized that a city's gateway serves as an important symbol of its identity, noting that Abuja, as Nigeria's administrative and diplomatic capital, deserves a landmark that reflects the country's values and aspirations.

According to the President, the remodeled City Gate, featuring a water fountain representing Nigeria's 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, creates a memorable first impression for visitors arriving in Abuja.

"When we look at a nation's capital, it represents the heart of its people. Abuja is Nigeria's diplomatic and administrative centre where all 36 states meet. Therefore, her city gate is one of the major first impressions of this city, welcoming visitors, reflecting the character of our people and communicating the pride our nation takes in its capital," he said.

Tinubu added that the upgraded monument now stands as a fitting symbol of Nigeria's unity in diversity and marks both the third anniversary of his administration and the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Federal Capital Territory.

The President also praised Wike for delivering the project and appealed to residents to safeguard the facility for future generations.

In his remarks, Wike credited the First Lady with initiating the transformation of the City Gate, revealing that she had drawn his attention to the poor condition of the landmark before its renovation.

He commended Oluremi Tinubu for her commitment to national development, saying public officials should emulate her dedication to identifying areas requiring intervention.

The minister noted that the remodeled City Gate has become an attractive destination where residents and visitors can gather and take photographs, projecting a positive image of Nigeria.

Originally constructed in 1991 during the administration of former military president Ibrahim Babangida, the Abuja City Gate was built to welcome the three arms of government following the relocation of Nigeria's capital to Abuja.

The remodeled City Gate is among several landmark infrastructure projects completed by the FCT Administration as part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration.
