ABU Hosts Soundcity OnTour as BIGI, Fearless Hunt for Nigeria’s Next Music Stars

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State, has hosted the 15th stop of Soundcity OnTour, bringing three days of live entertainment, music talent discovery and a ₦1 million campus prize to students.

The three-day activation, held from August 18 to 20, is part of the 20-campus nationwide tour organised to connect Nigerian university students with live music and opportunities for emerging artistes.

Powered by BIGI and Fearless Energy Drink, the tour combines campus entertainment with a talent discovery initiative through BIGI Music, giving student artistes an opportunity to compete for recognition beyond their university communities.

The first day featured campus activities and build-up events, while Day Two focused on the BIGI Music auditions. Student artistes competed for spots on the concert stage, with the top five earning the opportunity to perform before the wider campus audience.

One standout performer emerged as the campus winner received a ₦1 million cash prize.

However, the talent search extends beyond the Zaria activation. Winners from each university stop will proceed to regional battles, where judges and social engagement will determine the artistes who advance to the national stage.

Two eventual national winners will receive a package designed to support their careers, including full studio production, A&R mentorship led by Bankulli, guaranteed Soundcity Radio rotation and professionally produced music videos.

The initiative therefore offers student artistes more than a one-off campus performance, creating a pathway through which emerging performers can progress from university-level competitions to national exposure.

The entertainment segment of the Zaria activation climaxed on Day Three with a Soundcity OnTour concert featuring Nigerian artistes including Falz, Magnito, Firstklaz, Hypeman Best and DJ Dewik.

For Rite Foods Limited, makers of BIGI and Fearless Energy Drink, the tour provides an avenue to engage Nigeria’s youthful population while supporting creativity and discovering emerging musical talent.

Soundcity OnTour is scheduled to continue to other universities across Nigeria before concluding in Abuja in October.

With the competition still ongoing, the organisers say the next major music star could emerge from any of the participating campuses, with the BIGI Music platform providing student artistes an opportunity to take their first steps towards national recognition.
